Matthew Knies has certainly had himself a tremendous pre-season, already having racked up a trio of assists in 2 games prior to tonight's matchup against the Montreal Canadiens. Now, he's added a goal as well, bringing his total up to 4 points in 3 pre-season games.

Knies has displayed excellent hands, vision, skating and work ethic so far this pre-season and has finally been rewarded with his first career pre-season NHL goal - on the penalty kill no less!

Knies and fellow Leafs' 2nd round pick Fraser Minten connected on this one, with Minten doing the hard work in the corner to come away with the puck on the forecheck.

Just as we were told before he made his NHL debut last season and what we were told before his playoffs debut in April, we are once again being told to temper our expectations when it comes to the soon to be 21-year-old Knies in what will be his rookie season. Why? The kid has shown a high level of poise, confidence and intelligence. He has shown us nothing to indicate that taking a more tentative approach is the safest bet. He has exceeded all expectations up to this point, so why shouldn't we be excited? Why shouldn't we have high hopes for the top prospect in the organization?

I say have at it! Put those Matthew Knies jerseys on order, because this kid is the real deal. He's going to be a star in this league.
