The Leafs have used a number of different goal songs in 2023-24 in hopes of finding something that could satiate the fans and get people more engaged and energized for home games. After a brief test run for Kid Cudi's "Pursuit of Happiness", the Leafs tried out "Dup Dup" by Mickey Krause. Next was Van Halen's "Panama" for Original Six games. Now, during tonight's Next Gen game against the Ottawa Senators, the Leafs unveiled yet another new goal song - 2U (feat. Justin Bieber) [Afrojack Remix] by David Guetta. The tune has a slow build up, but really gets hot at the 1:55 mark.
Fans had been wondering up to this point why the team had not been using any Justin Bieber tunes, given his affiliation with the team, including several Drew House collaborations like the Leafs' own Next Gen Flipside jerseys. Well, regardless of why the Leafs didn't opt for any Bieber tunes until now, they're using a Bieber tune now, much to the delight of the fanbase.
Bieber, a noted Leafs super fan, has more than 292 million followers on Instagram alone. His music career dates back to his childhood and his affiliation with the Leafs allows him to combine his two passions; music and hockey. The 29-year-old is also very good friends with several Leafs players, most notably Auston Matthews. You'd have to imagine that Auston had some input as to which Bieber tune the team has opted to use for its Next Gen game goal song.
