During the first period, Wings forward Lucas Raymond lost his footing and slid into goaltender Matt Murray, who was facing the play and had his feet taken out from behind. It was completely accidental and there's really no one to blame, but Murray's head did hit the ice. Murray left the game and didn't return, it's unclear whether the team or the concussion spotter pulled him. Today at the morning skate, Sheldon Keefe provided an update on the Leafs' unluckiest goaltender.
According to Keefe, Murray sustained an injury to his head, not surprising, as it was an ugly fall. Unfortunately there's more. Keefe indicated that there are multiple other injuries to go with it. A fall like Murray's had the potential to cause injury to his legs, back and neck, it's not surprising that he's dealing with more than one sore spot. Of course, some of those injuries may have been lingering from before the fall as well. We can't be certain.
At this time, Murray is listed as day-to-day. According to Keefe, another update will be available soon. The Leafs will give it a couple of days for things to "settle" and re-evaluate Murray's condition before setting a recovery timeline.
