It was a big night for a core four member as well and it wasn't newly inked William Nylander or goal scoring machine Auston Matthews. The star of the game was hometown boy Mitch Marner.
The 4th overall pick in 2015 made history on Tuesday, passing the great Frank Mahovlich for 7th all-time in Maple Leafs scoring. Marner has scored 185 goals and 598 points in 545 games. Given Marner's scoring history, he should be able to hold sixth place by seasons end, passing Ron Ells' 640 points.
Marner moved into second place in Leafs history with 16 four-point games after scoring two goals and two assists in Tuesday's contest.
If the 26-year-old can play his entire career in Toronto, he has a real shot at the number one position on the all-time points list, currently held by Mats Sundin with 987. However, if both he and Matthews play their whole careers in Toronto, they'll be battling it out to see who becomes the most productive Leaf in history.
