The Leafs dropped their pre-season opener against the Ottawa Senators by a score of 3-2 on Sunday afternoon. The Sens' top line feasted on a lineup of mostly Toronto Marlies, but were only able to put 3 goals past the Leafs' 4th and 5th best goaltenders. Tonight, the Leafs will have a rematch with a much stronger lineup at home with the new look top line of Mitch Marner, Auston Matthews and Tyler Bertuzzi suiting up. They'll also be stronger in goal as Joseph Woll and Martin Jones are set to strap on the pads for their first taste of pre-season action.

Sheldon Keefe revealed earlier today that Woll will be getting the start in net for tonight's game. After a very strong 2022-23 season with both the Leafs and Marlies, Woll is expected to pick up where he left off, providing solid, steady goaltending and winning hockey games.

As a goaltender myself, I've been very impressed with Woll's positioning and technical game. He makes life easier for himself by being in the right spot and making difficult saves look routine. If he can stay healthy, I believe he has a good chance of stealing the starter's net from Ilya Samsonov before the end of the season.
