It's been uncharacteristically quiet in Toronto this summer in terms of reporting on the team, which has led to some pretty wild speculation in recent weeks as we approach the draft and free agency. With the organization being very quiet right now and not wanting to tip their hand, it's only a matter of time until the floodgates open. Until then, all we have is rumours.

One rumour that was generating a lot of discussion in recent days was the potential buyout of T.J. Brodie, the Leafs' best defensive defenseman. A pair of reports from Daily Faceoff sparked the discussion, but as one Toronto reporter tweeted out on Tuesday, there are absolutely no legs to the rumour.

Now, with that wild idea out of the way, we can turn the page on the idea of moving Brodie and perhaps start discussing what a potential extension might look like for the defensive stalwart. He's not exactly a spring chicken anymore, but he does still have a lot of good hockey left in the tank.

While Nylander and Matthews remain the priority this summer in terms of extension talk, I suspect that we'll hear some chatter surrounding Brodie at some point after free agency opens up - but likely not until Matthews and Nylander are sorted out.
