In his first full NHL season in 2018/2019, Andreas Johnsson registered 20 goals and 43 points for the Leafs. Since then, however, his career has largely been underwhelming. In four NHL seasons since his breakout year, Johnsson has scored just 26 times and registered just 70 points in 177 games for the Leafs, Devils and Sharks. After signing a 4-year, $13.6M deal with the Leafs in 2019 that came with an AAV of $3.4M, Johnsson was traded to the Devils in exchange for Joey Anderson to clear up cap space for the Leafs.

Johnsson never really found his footing in New Jersey, which prompted them to place him on waivers during this past season, in the hopes that someone would claim him. Unfortunately no one did. He was then traded by the Devils to San Jose as part of the Timo Meier deal and played in 11 games for the Sharks.

With his 4-year deal completed, it appears that Johnsson has given up on his NHL dream and is returning home to Sweden where he will play for Frolunda of the Swedish Elite League for the upcoming 2023-2024 season. At 28 years old, it is unlikely that Johnsson finds his way back to the NHL at this point, unless he has a spectacular season or two with Frolunda.
