The Leafs and Robertson were hopeful that rehab would help him recover from the injury and that surgery could be avoided, but it is just another unfortunate blow for the Leafs' young forward. Having dealt with a number of significant injuries since signing with the Leafs, Robertson's development has been altered tremendously. The recovery timeline for Robertson is expected to be six months, which effectively ends his season.
In addition, defenseman Mac Hollowell has also suffered an unfortunate injury, shattering his knee cap this past week and has undergone a surgical procedure of his own to repair the damage. While his timeline is not quite as long as Robertson's, Hollowell is still expected to miss at least the next 12 weeks, which may very well end his season as well.
While Hollowell was not likely to factor in much at the NHL level this season, Robertson was expected to take on a significant role for the Buds. There was a top six spot right there for the taking and while Robertson often appeared to be on the cusp of breaking out, there were times throughout the first half of the season where he looked lost and found himself a healthy scratch.
All the best to both Robertson and Hollowell in their respective recoveries. Very unfortunate and you feel for two kids who just want to take the next step in their careers. Hopefully there will be opportunities for both of them at training camp this fall.
