Leafs defenseman and Sens forward drop the gloves

As the Toronto Maple Leafs continued to get dominated at the start of the third period, the Ottawa Senators got an opportunity to take a 3-2 lead early off of a deflection of a point shot. The deflection forced Leafs goaltender Martin Jones to make an awkward save, letting out a rebound that he had to corral. In his attempt to corral the loose puck, Senators rookie Ridly Greig continued to dig at Jones and the puck before the whistle.

His digging led to him being grabbed by Leafs defenseman William Lagesson. Lagesson got Greig in a headlock and as they drifted towards the boards, they dropped their gloves and engaged in a spirited tilt. It began with Lagesson holding Greig against the boards in a headlock and landing a number of punches before things evened-out and Greig was able to square up. The two then traded shots before officials stepped in.

Since Reaves has been out of the lineup with a knee injury, the Leafs have had more sandpaper and reaction when it comes to instances like digging at the goalie or a dirty play. It is great to see, but should have been happening from the start. Reaves was not brought in to handle everyone's dirty work, he was brought in to make sure the bigger and tougher guys had to answer to someone. Regardless, the sandpaper the Leafs have shown since he went down has been welcomed. Now, they just have to figure out how to play a full 60 minutes consistently.
