"The Toronto Maple Leafs picked up a big win over the New York Islanders on Thursday night to move to within one point of second place in the Atlantic Division. However, the mood was dampened when Auston Matthew left with an apparent shoulder injury shortly after scoring the game tying goal late in the third period. Matthews got hit simultaneously by Adam Pelich and Cal Clutterbuck and he skated right off the ice and into the locker room.
Matthews was a no-show for today's morning skate as the Leafs prepare tomorrow's big game versus the Boston Bruins. William Nylander slotted to center between Zach Hyman and Connor Brown. Either Josh Leivo or Matt Martin will make their return to the lineup if Matthews can't play. TSN's Bob McKenzie reported that Matthews will have an MRI on his injured shoulder today and the Leafs will know more about his status then.
TOR will know more on full extent of Auston Matthews injury after an MRI today. It's believed to be a shoulder injury. — Bob McKenzie (@TSNBobMcKenzie) February 23, 2018
