"In a very shocking move Sunday morning, the Toronto Maple Leafs and general manager Lou Lamoriello announced that they've acquired Tomas Plekanec from division rival the Montreal Canadiens. It's shocking to see the Canadiens trade Plekanec to a division rival. The Canadiens have sent Plekanec and Kyle Baun to the Leafs in exchange of Rinat Valiev, Kerby Rychel and the Leafs 2018 2nd round pick. The Canadiens will also retain 50% of Plekanec's salary. With Auston Matthews injured, this gives the Leafs a very reliable center to hold them off until the playoffs.
More to come.
So it's Tomas Plekanec and Kyle Baun to Maple Leafs for Rinat Valiev, Kerby Rychel and Leafs 2nd round pick in 2018. — Renaud Lavoie (@renlavoietva) February 25, 2018
