Maple Leaf great Rick Vaive served as captain of the Leafs from 1982 to 1986. Vaive is widely known for his goal-scoring ability with the Maple Leafs, amassing three 50-goal seasons in a row from 1981 to 1984. His son, Justin Vaive, is now also part of the Maple Leafs organization, but in a very different capacity.
Justin Vaive is on the newly added ECHL team of the Maple Leafs, the Cincinnati Cyclones.
According to Lance Hornby (@sunhornby on Twitter/X):
The 35-year-old Vaive has bounced around between the ECHL and AHL throughout his career. Entering his fifth season as captain of the Cyclones, he was recently confirmed to be able to continue in that role following the Maple Leafs' addition of the Cyclones to the organization earlier this summer.
While the careers of father and son Rick and Justin Vaive have been quite different, it's a unique and meaningful connection that both have worn the 'C' within the Maple Leaf organization.
