Robertson, fresh off of his game-winning goal on Thursday night against the Montreal Canadiens, is doing whatever he can to put himself on the coaching staff's radar, even earning some praise from head coach Craig Berube after the win, despite his ill-advised stick shove on William Nylander that took the Swedish forward out of the game after being struck in the head.
Even with the praise from Berube and even with Robertson's determination to work hard to earn a roster spot in the top-6, Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli believes it's still a strong possibility that Robertson begins the season with another NHL club. He affirmed as much during an appearance on Sportsnet 590 The FAN on Friday.
Robertson had requested a trade earlier this summer after an inconsistent 2023-24 season where he simply could not stay in the lineup long enough to prove to Sheldon Keefe that he belonged in the NHL. However, under Berube, Robertson seems like he'll receive a fair shake and a legitimate chance at a full-time job with the Leafs. Unfortunately, that job may not be a guaranteed top-6 spot, as Seravalli had alluded to, so it will be interesting to see whether or not Robertson will renew his trade request if it looks like he'll end up starting the season in the bottom-6.
