Joseph Woll's new mask pays homage to former Maple Leaf goaltender Curtis Joseph
It would appear as though Maple Leafs goaltender Joseph Woll has himself a new mask design for 2024-25, one that pays homage to a Leafs legend.
Last season, when he wasn't hurt, Woll sported a mask that had an eagle on either side as its primary image. This season, however, Woll has changed direction completely with a design that resembles that of Leafs alumn Curtis Joseph.
Painted by David Gunnarsson, the mask features what appears to be a Coyote or wolf head in different shades of Maple Leafs blue that sees the cage of the helmet between the upper and lower jaw and surrounded by teeth. Woll's new mask is eerily similar to the design Cujo wore throughout his time in the NHL.
Woll, signed a 3-year extension this summer, enters the final year of his current deal, hoping to secure the starting job for the Leafs. To do so, he will need to ensure that his injury issues remain behind him.
Woll suffered multiple injuries last season, including a high-ankle sprain that kept him out for almost 3 months and a back injury that kept him out of Game 7 against the Boston Bruins during the playoffs.
