On Thursday evening, shortly after taking wedding rehearsal photos for their sister Katie's wedding, which was scheduled to occur on Friday, August 30th, Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau set out for an evening trek on their bicycles. It was the last time they would ever see their families again.
Sean Higgins, the driver who hit the brothers while cycling, was attempting to pass an SUV on the shoulder when he struck and killed Johnny and Matthew. According to reports, Higgins was several beers deep and had an open alcohol container in his vehicle at the time of the accident.
The photo below is one of the last ones ever taken of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau.
Understandably, following the events of Thursday evening, Katie Gaudreau and her beau, Devin Joyce, have opted to cancel the wedding, as confirmed by Page Six:
What was originally supposed to be a joyous weekend as two loved ones start their lives together as man and wife quickly became one of the most horrible tragedies imaginable. Sisters losing brothers. Fathers and mothers losing sons. Wives losing husbands. Children losing fathers. There are no words.
Please keep the Gaudreaus in your hearts and in your prayers as they continue to grieve the unfathomable losses of two of their most cherished loved ones.
