Over the weekend, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman piqued the interest of Leafs Nation when he reported that the Maple Leafs were currently weighing their options on how they might be able to address a roster need on the left wing.
Since that time, a number of names have been mentioned, including Nick Cousins, Max Pacioretty, and another former Maple Leaf, James van Riemsdyk. Now, we can add Matt Martin's name into the fray.
The one question Fox had about the potential fit was whether or not the Leafs would even consider the move with Ryan Reaves already on the roster, since Martin would essentially play the same role.
Personally, I think the Leafs might be better off simply letting the kids play than bringing in another 35+ player, but maybe that's just me.
Martin suited up in 57 games for the New York Islanders in 2023-24, amassing 4 goals and 4 assists for a total of 8 points over that span. Let's face it, if the Leafs do sign him, they wouldn't be doing it for the point production.
