The Toronto Maple Leafs may have found a way to keep their roster intact, even with the return of towering defender Jani Hakanpaa.

As the Toronto Maple Leafs continue to roll, improving their season record to 9-5-2, there are a few players eager to rejoin the NHL lineup. Newly signed Jani Hakanpaa and returnee Connor Dewar, are both on the cusp of returning from injury and are eager to make a difference for the Leafs.

However, due to salary cap constraints, it's been challenging to find a way to fit them into the lineup. But one potential solution could allow the team to add both players without losing anyone in the process.

As Elliotte Friedman discussed on the most recent written version of 32 Thoughts, the key to this whole thing could be Philippe Myers.

"Toronto's got its roster crunch, not news, but that will force decisions. One possibility: Philippe Myers accepts a conditioning stint because he hasn't played, which at least makes roster room for Jani Hakanpaa."

Hakanpaa has been sidelined from NHL action for some time, dealing with a lingering knee injury that delayed his initial signing with the Leafs. However, after a positive conditioning stint with the AHL's Toronto Marlies, it seems that both Hakanpaa and Dewar are close to being game-ready for the NHL.

The prospect of Hakanpaa joining the team is exciting for Leafs fans. His 6'7" frame, his affinity for penalty killing and penchant for heavy hits could be just what the doctor ordered on the blueline in Toronto to add a few new elements to the group.
