Beloved Maple Leafs icon Doug Gilmour has finally revealed how he earned his notorious nickname in the NHL.

Doug Gilmour is celebrated as one of the greatest Maple Leafs of all time. Known for his tenacity on the ice, incredible offensive abilities, and a career-high 127 points in the 1992-93 season, Gilmour left a lasting impact on the team. His playoff performances were equally impressive, leading the Maple Leafs to many victories, particularly during the 1992-94 years, where he amassed 63 points in just 39 playoff games.

Gilmour's infamous nickname, "Killer" is well-known among fans and was explained by Gilmour himself on episode 313 of the @MissinCurfew Podcast. He shared:

''I was 155 pounds, had a mullet, so Brian (Sutter) called me Charlie'. It was based on Charlie Manson, and that's how the name changed over to Killer' a little bit later. Till this day if I see Brian (Sutter), he (still) calls me Charlie'.''

Gilmour received the nickname "Killer" from Brian Sutter, the team captain of the St. Louis Blues, during Gilmour's rookie season with the club in 1983-84.

Notorious for his nickname, Gilmour played with a ferocious edge throughout his 20-year career and was inducted into Hockey Hall of Fame in 2011.
