After officially introducing Auston Matthews as the 26th captain in Toronto Maple Leafs history, GM Brad Treliving made a handful of media appearances where he discussed the decision, the Core 4 and the current roster. It was during his discussion with the OverDrive crew when Treliving revealed that he isn't necessarily done adding to the roster this summer.
Treliving alluded to the fact the Leafs have a number of young players pushing for roster spots, but so far, the team has failed to make any real addition to the forward group to replace the departed Tyler Bertuzzi. Additionally, the status of Nick Robertson, who remains unsigned following his trade request is still an unknown, as is the status of defenseman Jani Hakanpaa's reported 2-year contract.
At this point, it's unclear who the Leafs might be targeting on the trade market, or which remaining UFAs they're in discussion with. However, training camp is just around the corner, so whatever is in the works, expect it done soon.
