After an initial report came out from Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman suggesting that Domi and the Leafs were closing the gap and nearing a new 4-year agreement, TSN's Chris Johnston has since confirmed that Domi's extension with the Leafs is done.
Domi was able to work in some trade protection, with the Leafs agreeing to a 13-team no-trade list. Obviously, this protects the player somewhat, while also giving the Leafs the option to move the deal in a few years if they aren't getting a return on the investment that they're happy with.
The fact that Domi put the team first says a lot here. After posting a near 50-point season, Domi could have commanded $5M per year on a multi-year deal on the open market. Instead, he has shown his true passion for being a Maple Leaf by leaving some significant salary on the table in exchange for a 4-year term.
