One Leafs reporter provided an update on Matthew Knies' injury that has left many confused after his initial injury report from the Leafs during Wednesday night's game.

Late in the second period, the Matthew Knies was forced to leave the game after an awkward collision following an attempted body check. During his fall, Knies appeared to hit his head/neck area on the leg of the linesman along the boards at the Leafs' bench.

Knies was slow to get up before speaking with trainers on the bench and then ultimately headed to the dressing room with two minutes to play in the second. The Leafs announced shortly after that Knies would not return for the third due to an upper-body injury.

Following the game, head coach Craig Berube stuck to his usual immediate update comments, saying that he and the team would know more on Thursday.

On Thursday morning, co-host of 'Leafs Morning Take' Nick Alberga explained that he was hearing that Knies was day-to-day with a knee injury. The remark came during Thursday's episode of the podcast with The Fourth Period's Dave Pagnotta as a guest.

His comments and his post on 'X' were puzzling and confused to most, given that the Leafs said it was an upper-body injury last night, which was confirmed by Berube post-game.

With more clarity surrounding his injury expected at some point on Thursday, clarity on whether it is an upper or lower-body injury will at least provide fans and the media with some information about the mysterious ailment.

The 22-year-old had been on a tear prior to his injury on Wednesday, scoring 7 goals in his past 9 games since Auston Matthews' return from his injury. The Arizona native has tallied a career-high 18 goals and 31 points in 47 games so far this season.
