"The Toronto Maple Leafs were the first time to make a move during the offseason and it was pretty significant. General manager Kyle Dubas shipped off Kasperi Kapanen to the Pittsburgh Penguins for a first round pick. However the deal could have been much bigger apparently according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman. Friedman reported on his latest 31 Thoughts Podcast, that Matt Murray was expected to be in the deal however that fell through when Dubas and the Leafs learned what Murray was going to be asking for in arbitration. The 26 year old goalie is a restricted free agent with arbitration rights this offseason. Dubas is extremely familiar with Murray from their Soo Greyhound days in the OHL. Would you have liked to see Murray included in the deal?
Friedman said on the latest 31 Thoughts pod that Matt Murray's potential arb reward was too rich for the Leafs when the Leafs and Pens were negotiating the Kapanen trade — J (@Account4hockey) September 1, 2020
