"The Montreal Canadiens announced earlier this week the young defenseman Victor Mete will miss the rest of the season due to a finger injury. Former Toronto Maple Leafs prospect, Rinat Valiev, was recalled from the Laval Rocket of the American Hockey League and he will make his Habs debut tonight at the New Jersey Devils. Dan Robertson, who is the play-by-play voice for the Montreal Canadiens on TSN 690 AM, spoke to Valiev today and the young defender confirmed that he did request a trade from the Maple Leafs. Lou Lamoriello granted him his wish by including Valiev in the deal that brought Tomas Plenakec to Toronto. It is easy to see why Valiev wanted out of the Leafs organization. The 22-year-old wants a shot at the NHL and he just wasn't going to get that with the Maple Leafs, especially with the emergence of Travis Dermott this season. Vailev played 10 games with the Maple Leafs during the 2015-16 season, but has not played in the NHL since.
