Kieffer Bellows and Brett Seney have both moved on from the Maple Leafs organization as they continue to pursue opportunities to further their careers. Unfortunately, both players recently received disappointing news, as they were both placed on waivers on Sunday.
Bellows signed a one-year deal with the Nashville Predators worth $775,000 this summer. However, it hasn't been a particularly strong camp for him, leading to today's news. Bellows had an impressive 49 points in 52 games for the Toronto Marlies in the 2023-24 season, which helped him secure his contract in Nashville. He has not played in the NHL since the 2022-23 season with the Philadelphia Flyers and has had a disappointing career relative to being drafted 19th overall by the New York Islanders in 2016.
Seney last played for the Maple Leafs in the 2021-22 season, where he was called up for two games, but registered no points. He performed well with the AHL affiliate Marlies that year, scoring 59 points in 62 games. Most recently, he was with the Chicago Blackhawks, playing four games in the 2023-24 season and recording 63 points in 68 games for their AHL affiliate, the Rockford IceHogs. Unfortunately for Seney, he was placed on waivers by the Blackhawks after signing a one-year deal this summer worth $775,000.
The Maple Leafs still have a few moves to make to address their own cap situation, as they need to make decisions on PTO players Max Pacioretty and Steven Lorentz, who have yet to be signed by the club. The expectation is that both with earn NHL deals, so we know that a trade is on the way.
