Toronto Maple Leafs coach Craig Berube has offered an update on the status of Matthew Knies, and unfortunately, it's not the best news.

Following a confusing injury update on Toronto Maple Leafs forward Matthew Knies earlier this week, coach Craig Berube has offered some clarity on the situation. Unfortunately, it doesn't look good.

Craig Berube, who recently gave Matthew Knies a heck of a compliment, praising his game, told reporters there's no timetable set for Knies' return.

"I don't know how long it will be. Yeah, it's a tough one to tell right now."

Knies' teammate Steven Lorentz said Thursday that Knies doesn't want to be sitting out very long, and the hope was he would be back soon.

"He's a tough kid. He's built like a brick you know what house and he's got that muscle and that added layer. I think he's just a little bit banged up, but he won't be out too much longer."

An insider provided a much more exciting update on Friday, as injured Leafs goaltender Anthony Stolarz appears poised for an imminent return, but for now, Berube will likely have to shuffle some lines against the Ottawa Senators tomorrow night to plug the hole created by Knies' absence.

Knies is listed as day-to-day with an "upper-body injury."

The 23-year-old had just come off a game against the Tampa Lightning where he scored 2 goals and 1 assist before leaving the next game against the Columbus Blue Jackets with the injury.
