Max Domi drops gloves with Sam Bennett, mocks him afterward
Coming into tonight's game against the Florida Panthers, every Leafs fan wanted revenge on the team that eliminated them from last year's playoffs. Sam Bennett is one player, specifically, that Leaf fans have a grudge against. As you may recall, Bennett injured Matthew Knies during the playoffs and the Leafs never really did respond.
Fans might have been expecting Ryan Reaves to target Bennett, but early on it was Max Domi getting under his skin. Domi took two minor penalties, including one against Bennett in the second period in a scrum after a whistle. Domi gave Tkachuk a cross check, then shoved Bennett and threw a bit of a jab at him, which the officiallys felt warranted a second penalty. On Domi's jab on Bennett, he clearly embellished the contact but still drew the penalty.
Soon afterward, Domi and Bennett connected again on a hit and dropped the gloves immediately after. Domi never truly got his footing in the fight, resulting in Bennett pretty much destroying him in the fight, but Bennett also landed a number of punches on Domi while he was down on a knee as well.
Although he lost the fight, Domi didn't back down from talking more trash in Bennett's direction. Right after the fight, Domi clearly played with his hair while staring at Bennett, mocking him for being bald.
He may not have won the fight, but this gesture from Domi showed Bennett and the Panthers that he is not the slightest bit intimidated by their physical presence. More Leaf players should take note of the way Domi stood up for himself, in my opinion.
