Canadian sports news giant TSN made the announcement regarding the passing of "Dutchy" after a lengthy battle with cancer on Thursday morning, leading what has been a very somber Thursday so far.
Since joining TSN back in 1995, Dutchyshen quickly became one of the most popular sportscasters in the business, revered for his work on SportsCentre, covering all of the highlights and stories from the previous evening's games. His commentary was always top quality and judging by how his colleagues are talking about him today, he will be missed dearly, not only by fans, but by his peers as well.
Darren Dreger offered his sentiments on Dutchy's passing this morning.
Pierre LeBrun shared his reaction to the heartbreaking news as well.
Popular Leafs reporter David Alter took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the passing of Dutchyshen.
The NHL's top insider, Elliotte Friedman called Dutchy a "giant", and not just because of his large stature. Friedman had a tremendous amount of respect for Dutchyshen.
TSN's Chris Johnston was saddened to hear the news as well.
The original TSN Hockey Insider, Bob McKenzie called Dutchyshen "larger than life" in his acknowledgement of the tragic news.
Even Raptors Reporter Kayla Grey had some touching words to share about Dutchyshen, showing that his impact stretched far beyond the hockey and football world.
The condolences and respect continue to pour in for Dutchyshen and while he's gone far too young, his memory will live on through our memories of his many catch phrases, like "Bang! Back of the net!".
Rest in peace, Dutchy. You'll be missed.
