The NHL's "Keeper of the Cup", Phil Prichard, has reportedly temporarily removed the Stanley Cup from the possession of the Florida Panthers.

According to Florida Hockey Now's George Richards, via an official report from NHL.com, the Panthers will have to continue their celebrations without the Stanley Cup present.

After securing their first Cup in franchise history, the parties in South Florida have been seemingly endless. However, with the Cup needing to be dressed with the names of the 52 players, coaches and staff members in Florida who are approved by the NHL's head office, the confiscation was required.

"Phil Prichard, the 'Keeper of the Cup' packed up the Stanley Cup after a late night out following Sunday's championship celebration in Fort Lauderdale.

On Monday, Prichard flew the Stanley Cup to Montreal where he handed it off to Louise St. Jacques who will painstakingly hammer the names of 52 players and staff into the silver." George Richards, Florida Hockey Now

According to the original story from NHL.com's Dave Stubbs, St. Jacques was not able to complete the work of etching the names into the Cup immediately, as there was some damage done by the Panthers that required some attention. Once repaired and polished, the names will be added and the Cup will begin making its rounds so that each player, coach and approved staff member can have their day with Hockey's greatest prize.
