Ever since then he's been mercilessly booed every time he visits his old stomping grounds and it was on display once again on Monday night when he recorded his 1,000th career NHL point in front of the Islanders faithful. Tavares spent his first 9 seasons on Long Island where he scored 272 goals and 621 points through 669 games.
Mark Lazerus, who covers the Chicago Blackhawks, caught up with former Islanders forward Anthony Beauvillier to catch his thoughts on the situation. Beauvillier played his first 2 seasons with Tavares in 2016-17 and 2017-18:
Beauvillier spent the first 7 years of his career with the Islanders before being traded to the Vancouver Canucks ahead of the trade deadline last year in a package deal that involved Bo Horvat. He understands the passion behind the Islanders fan base and finds the lighter side to the situation, rather than looking at any negatives.
The one thing you want from any fan base is passion and the Islanders will always be passionate about their club, their history, and their players. Tavares was a superstar during his time and his departure stung then, still stings to this day, and doesn't seem like that's going to change any time soon.
