The Edmonton Oilers are set to name their next general manager, replacing Ken Holland and Jeff Jackson, but their choice could impact of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl.

Oilers fans were hopeful that interim GM Jeff Jackson would simply decide to remove the 'interim' tag and assume the full-time duties as Ken Holland's replacement after the off-season he had. Unfortunately, Jackson had no intentions of doing so and after a lengthy process, landed on the recently re-instated Stan Bowman as the best candidate for the job.

Bowman along with Joel Quenneville, were re-instated by the NHL at the beginning of July after being suspended indefinitely by the league for their roles in the Kyle Beach scandal while they were with the Chicago Blackhawks.

Marred by controversy since the incident became public, Bowman's return is going to be met with many questions and distaste by fans who do not believe he or Quenneville should be allowed to return to the NHL ever.

Bowman will also assume the role of Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations. He will have his work cut out for him immediately as he attempts to sign Leon Draisaitl to an extension and discuss his future plan with Connor McDavid, who will be eligible for an extension next summer. Bowman and the Oilers are scheduled to meet with the Edmonton media later today, which should yield more questions than answers.
