The Montreal Canadiens skated away with a 3-2 OT win in Detroit on Tuesday, but they were lucky to do so following a brutal hit by 2022 1st overall pick Juraj Slafkovsky on Detroit's Matt Luff, which resulted in a 5-minute major and a game misconduct for Slafkovsky - deservedly so.

It appears as though Slafkovsky's punishment will not end there, as the NHL's Department of Player Safety has offered the 18-year-old a hearing, which means that a suspension is highly likely.

Luff suffered a significant injury on the play and is expected to miss multiple months of action as a result of the hit. He is expected to undergo surgery on Thursday.

These types of hits are dangerous and have no place in the game. This marks the second time in the last week where a Habs forward has delivered such a hit. Josh Anderson was suspended 2 games on November 6th for a similar hit on Vegas Golden Knights defenseman Alex Pietrangelo on November 5th.
