During Tuesday night's matchup between the Minnesota Wild and LA Kings, the Wild's superstar winger, Kirill Kaprizov, was ejected with a match penalty for high-sticking Drew Doughty about 15 minutes into the second.
Naturally, Doughty reacted accordingly.
On Sportnet's broadcast, the commentators said it should've been a five-minute major to Kaprizov instead of a match penalty. However, the latter was given, which sparked a reaction from hockey fans.
The game went scoreless into the third, but the Kings came out victorious after scoring a single goal that, of course, Doughty assisted on.
Given the nature of the high stick from Kaprizov, it shouldn't be surprising if he ends up having a hearing with the league. This one is not unlike what Auston Matthews did to Sabres defenseman Rasmus Dahlin last season - for which he received a 2-game suspension - so that could end up being the benchmark if a hearing is indeed offered.
