"After the Toronto Maple Leafs announced that Auston Matthews was placed on injured reserve and would miss at least four weeks, the forward met with the media after practice. Matthews expressed some extreme frustration with the new injury, especially because he missed 20 games last season with injury. "It's frustrating. There's not much you can do. It sucks. It's part of the game. I'm going to work as hard as I can to get back as soon as possible and feeling back to myself."
The small bit of good news out of all of this is that Matthews confirmed it wasn't the same shoulder that Matthews hurt last year. He also confirmed that his shoulder wouldn't require any form of surgery, just some time to heal up. Head coach Mike Babcock isn't worried about Matthews' physical state, but more about his mental."Your mental health is the most important thing in any walk of life. So when things don't go the way you want and it affects you mentally, how are you going to handle that? We talked about that this morning. Be around the group and do what you do"
