While the Toronto Maple Leafs and general manager Kyle Dubas didn't exactly make some mind blowing moves this offseason he plugged some holes. Dubas brought back locker room favourite Jason Spezza and signed free agent forwards Wayne Simmonds, Jimmy Vesey and Joe Thornton. He also addressed the blue line by signing TJ Brodie and Zach Bogosian and rolling the dice on KHL defenseman Mikko Lehtonen. Some people aren't happy with the moves while others believe it's just enough to get the team over that first round playoff hump. To get over that hump, we heard the Leafs might try a new strategy and that's consistently rolling out seven defensemen. "The depth of our D would lend itself to this & I wouldn't be surprised to see us use it from time to time during the season ..."
This is a big gamble by the Leafs and a strategy usually only used by teams with injury issues up front. Do you think having seven defensemen would work for the Leafs?
