Easton Cowan and the London Knights fell just short of a Memorial Cup title to cap off a ridiculous season that saw him take home the Red Tilson Trophy as most valuable player during the regular season. Cowan was also named to the OHL and CHL First All-Star Team and earned the Wayne Gretzky 99 Award for playoff MVP as well as an OHL Championship.
Cowan had everyone watching him as he ended the season on a 36-game point streak, which extended to 42 games including playoffs. The 36-game point streak helped Cowan collect 96 points (34 goals, 62 assists) in 54 games during the season. He also had 34 points in just 18 playoff games, showing that he can preform in the big moments.
His numbers this past season were ridiculous and showed he took a big step forward in his development with a comparable being 2021 first-round pick of the Dallas Stars Wyatt Johnston. In the season following his draft year, Johnston registered 1.77 points-per-game for the Windsor Spitfires. Cowan's points-per-game this past season was a touch higher at 1.81PPG (both include Reg sn + p-off).
The following season, Johnston cracked the Stars' lineup and skated in all 82 games where he put up an impressive 41 points as a rookie, before exploding this past season for 65 points and adding another 16 in the playoffs for Dallas. With Cowan already surprising many with the progress he has made since being drafted, and his determination to crack the Leafs' roster this season, it would not be seen as a stretch to say that he could produce similarly to Johnston if he is given the opportunity.
