Current Edmonton Oiler and former Maple Leaf Zach Hyman and his family have made a rather large purchase, buying one of the top teams in the OHL.

Zach Hyman is no longer a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs, but the Edmonton Oilers winger is still very much into hockey in his home province of Ontario.

Hyman, who is now a member of the Edmonton Oilers after spending six seasons with the Maple Leafs has decided to team up with his family and buy the OHL's Brantford Bulldogs from Ottawa Senators owner Michael Andlauer.

"An official announcement will be released next week, but it raises many questions about what this could mean for the team and the community in Brantford.

Michael Andlauer has owned the team for the last ten years."

Andlauer purchased the Bulldogs in 2015 when they were in Bellville and moved the entire operation to Hamilton. In 2023, the team started playing in Brantford, and there are plans for a $140 million sports and entertainment centre that would serve as the Bulldogs' home.

Hyman was initially a draft pick of the Florida Panthers, but broke into the NHL with the Toronto Maple Leafs following a trade to the team at the start of Kyle Dubas' tenure as AGM in Toronto. Hyman signed a seven-year, $38.5 million deal with the Oilers as a UFA following the conclusion of the 2020-21 NHL season.

The Bulldogs' new arena is slated to open in 2027. It remains to be seen how this sale with impact those plans, if at all.

Hyman is a native of Toronto, and played junior hockey with the Hamilton Red Wings for three seasons before moving over to the US college hockey system.
