"Over the weekend we saw talk of the Toronto Maple Leafs having interest in Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Jack Johnsonand Colorado's Tyson Barrie, however why not try and get the best of the best. While everybody was speculating on those two, Leafs All-Star Auston Matthews took matters into his own hands with some All-Star game recruiting. Earlier this season we heard plenty of speculation about what Norris Trophy winner Drew Doughty might do in the future, Matthews wanted to make sure Doughty knew Toronto was an option. "I recruited him a little bit. He didn't bite," Matthews said, according to Kevin McGran of the Toronto Star. "I said: 'Hey, how's it going?' He said: 'Good.' I said, 'Are you coming to Toronto?' He just laughed and skated away."
With Doughty not willing to listen to Matthews, the Leafs star might have to focus his attention towards Erik Karlsson who's future in Ottawa is questionable as well.
