Sean Higgins, the drunk driver who took the lives of Johnny Gaudreau and Matthew Gaudreau, is facing some very serious charges and a lengthy jail sentence.
It has been just over one week since the hockey world and the Gaudreau family lost two important people in Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau, who were
struck and killed by Higgins while cycling home from their sister Katie's wedding rehearsal in New Jersey.
As everyone continues to mourn their tragic passing, Higgins remains in a jail cell awaiting his hearing before a judge on September 13th. By the sounds of things, he should get comfortable inside of a cell, because the charges he's facing so far could see him spending the next 20 years behind bars.
According to a recent post on Twitter/X from a user who has a background in law, Higgins is facing two counts of vehicular homicide, which can result in as many as 10 years in jail on a single charge.
To be quite honest, 20 years doesn't even seem like enough. Higgins not only took two lives senselessly and recklessly with his decision to consume alcohol and attempt to pass aggressively on the shoulder, but he also destroyed two separate families, taking their husbands and fathers away from them forever.
It's still relatively early in the process, so we could yet see additional charges tacked on for Higgins. As of right now, however, it is expected that there will be a cash bail set at somewhere between $50,000 and $150,000 if Higgins does wish to temporarily end his cancelation while he awaits a date before the judge.
