The Maple Leafs to receive special gift after erasing a 3-1 deficit in Washington to beat the Capitals 4-3 in OT in Oliver Ekman-Larsson's 1000th career NHL game.

A night after dropping an embarrassing 3-0 decision to the lowly Ottawa Senators on home ice in Toronto, the Leafs were in Washington to take on the Capitals in what marked the 1000th game of first year Leaf Oliver Ekman-Larsson's career, for which, the Leafs had unveiled a special profile picture in honour of the occasion.

The Leafs found themselves down 2 goals to the home team with time ticking away in the 3rd period, but never quit in this one, pushing back with goals from William Nylander and Mitch Marner to send the game to overtime, where John Tavares made no mistake, scoring a beauty to cap off the comeback victory.

With the win, Ekman-Larsson decided to do something special for his teammates for allowing his 1000th game to he a winning venture. OEL promised to take his teammates out for an expensive dinner.

While it should be the other way around, with the team taking Ekman-Larsson out for dinner to celebrate his career milestone, OEL's teammates weren't complaining about the free meal.

Ekman-Larsson surprised many this summer when he left the Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers to join the Maple Leafs on a 4-year deal.

Thus far through his 18 games with the Maple Leafs, Ekman-Larsson has scored a goal and racked up 5 assists for a total of 6 points. Over the course of his career, OEL has tallied 145 goals and 332 assists, totalling 477 points.
