Breaking: Corey Perry expected to sign with Cup contender in Canada
The Corey Perry saga has been well documented, what with the long-time Ducks star having his contract terminated in Chicago earlier this season. Much of the details of the event that had caused Perry's dismissal in Chicago have been kept out of the media, but we do know that the infraction was not anything illegal.
Following the announcement that Perry's contract would be terminated, the veteran winger admitted that he has struggled with alcohol abuse and was seeking help for his issues. He also issued an apology for his actions and after meeting with Gary Bettman, he has been cleared to sign with a new team.
There was some speculation that Perry would consider a deal with the Leafs, as the two sides had mutual interest in getting a deal done. However, Perry has since reportedly agreed to terms on a deal with the Edmonton Oilers.
The terms of the deal have not yet been announced and the deal has not become official just yet, though that is expected to get done today, per The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta.
Perry had amassed 4 goals and 9 points in 16 games prior to his contract termination with the Hawks. The feisty veteran has racked up 421 career goals and 892 career points across his 1,273 game NHL career.
