With Klingberg out for the season, the Leafs have now opened up his $4.15M in cap space to look for a solution, specifically on the right side. On Yesterday's "Ray & Dregs" podcast, TSN's Darren Dreger revealed that the Leafs have been in contact with the Philadelphia Flyers about two of their defensemen.
Dreger included that the Flyers may want to re-sign one or both of them and also mentioned that the asking price is no less than a second-round pick, which Toronto does not have. Given that the Leafs do not own a second-round pick in the next three drafts, they may have to part with one of their suddenly top prospects, which Ray Ferraro touched on.
After making the Leafs out of training camp, Minten has quickly climbed up the depth chart of Leafs prospects and could play a large part in the future of the team. Along with Easton Cowan, the pair could become a pretty good duo for the Leafs up front in the future. For an organization that has depleted its prospect pool the past few seasons, it would be difficult to see the Leafs move/want to move either of them, which is exactly what the Flyers may want.
