After a bit of a slow, concerning start, the Toronto Maple Leafs have collected points in 8 of their last 10 games, en route to a 12-6-4 record overall, good for 28 points on the season. The Leafs now sit just 1 point back of Detroit for 3rd in the division and 2 points back of Florida for 2nd in the division, with games in hand on both Atlantic Division foes.

Last night's game against the Boston Bruins was a pretty good measuring stick game for the Leafs, as the Bruins lead the Atlantic with 35 points on the year and are just 1 point back of Vegas for the league lead, with 2 games in hand no-less. Not only did the Leafs keep up with the Bruins, they often outplayed them in the contest, knotting the game with a little over 5 seconds to go to force overtime.

Unfortunately, the Buds fell short in extra time, though they traded some pretty good chances with the Bruins. Joseph Woll was brilliant in OT again, stopping 10 of 11 shots. Ultimately, it was a slip up from William in the neutral zone that caused a turnover, springing all 3 Bruins, with only Morgan Rielly pushing back to try to disrupt the play, and when David Pastrnak's original attempt was stopped by Woll, it took him out of position to stop Brad Marchand's follow-up shot.

Following the game, Pastrnak rubbed some salt in the wounds of the Leafs and Leafs Nation when he said "It's always fun to win, especially here."

Granted, the Bruins surrendered a point, so it wasn't exactly a dominant performance, but with the Leafs/Bruins rivalry being what it is, we probably shouldn't be too shocked that Pasta wanted to stick it to the Leafs in the media before leaving Toronto.

The Bruins will now head home to kick off a 3-game homestand against the Blue Jackets, Sabres and Coyotes. The Leafs won't see them again until the beginning of March when they close out the season series with games in Toronto on March 4th and Boston on March 7th.
