During a game against the Boston Bruins on November 2nd, the Toronto Maple Leafs failed to stand up for Timothy Liljegren after he was injured on a sketchy play by Bruins captain Brad Marchand. Liljegren and Marchand had been engaged in a puck race, when Marchand placed his stick through Liljegren's legs and took his feet out from under him, sending him crashing feet first into the boards.

The lack of a response earned the team a tongue-lashing from Sheldon Keefe and GM Brad Treliving. Since that time, we have seen the Leafs get their noses a little bit dirtier, but the fact of the matter is that we won't know how they'll respond to the Bruins, and more specifically Brad Marchand, until tonight.

Today, Marchand was reminded of the trip on Liljegren back on November 2nd and, ahead of tonight's game, was asked about the lack of pushback from the Leafs after the hit. His response has irked Leafs Nation, because he still insists he did nothing wrong by intentionally taking Liljegren's feet out in one of the most dangerous plays in hockey.

"There wasn't a response because it wasn't a bad play."

The Leafs are dressing Ryan Reaves for the occasion tonight, so it's safe to say that they're anticipating a bit of a rough outing. As much as Leafs Nation probably wants the team to target Marchand and go for their pound of flesh, I'd settle for the Leafs hammering him with a couple of hits, making his night miserable in post-whistle scrums and beating the Bruins on the score sheet. They don't need to have someone drop the gloves with a much smaller Marchand to get the last laugh.
