Newly Acquired Maple Leaf Joel Edmundson has made defenseman William Lagesson expandable and, as expected, he was among those placed on waivers on Thursday. Now that Lagesson is back on waivers, if he can sneak through, he will be a great addition for the Toronto Marlies and continue as insurance for the Maple Leafs. Lagesson wasn't the only one waived on Thursday, though. Here's the full list:
The Carolina Hurricanes placed three of their players on waivers to make room for trade deadline acquisitions. Canes forward Brendan Lemieux, defenseman Tony DeAngelo, and goaltender Antti Raanta are all available and may be susceptible to a claim tomorrow at 2pm ET, just 1 hour before the deadline.
Lemieux is an interesting move as he can be a real pain to play against and checks a lot of the boxes as a bottom-six forward. DeAngelo is a right-hand defenseman with great offensive upside, and Raanta being a veteran goaltender who is a solid third string goalie for any team he plays on, any or all of these players could be claimed.
Vegas Golden Knights' 22-year-old defenseman Tobias Björnfot is on waivers today as well. As you may recall, he was a 2019 1st round pick of the LA Kings. Why is that relevant? Because the pick that was used to select him originally belonged to the Maple Leafs, who sent it to LA in the deal that brought defenseman Jake Muzzin to Toronto.
It will be no surprise if a few of these names are claimed tomorrow before the trade deadline has passed. We just may see one of these players clear and be used in a package to push through a deal.
