John Tortorella reveals why his Flyers are winning this year and the reason is as awesome as you'd imagine
One of the biggest surprises in the NHL this year has undoubtedly been the play of the Philadelphia Flyers, who were a lottery team last year at best. So far this season, the Flyers have amassed 26 points, which puts them right in the thick of things for the early playoff race, neck-and-neck with the New York Islanders, who also have 26 points, and 2 points back of the Maple Leafs, who currently have 28 points on the season.
Last night, the Flyers gutted out a win against their archrivals, the Pittsburgh Penguins, winning 4-3 in a shootout, bringing them up to 6-3-1 over their last 10 games. Following the game, the always entertaining John Tortorella revealed why he believes his team has been gutting out these types of wins and why they're in the position that they're in.
"We win the game because we've got balls. We do. We do stupid stuff, we don't make some plays sometimes, lose sight of certain momentums in the games, a number of things we have to work on and try to get consistent at, but one thing we do have is balls."
The always eloquent Tortorella has always had a certain way of coaching his teams. Love him or hate him, Tortorella's brand of hockey is successful when people buy in. This year, it's apparent that the Flyers have bought in.
